How to Buy Tickets

Online (Recommended): Purchase tickets through the official Milli Saraylar website at millisaraylar.gov.tr. Online tickets include a timed entry slot, which means you can skip the general admission queue. During peak season (May–September), this can save you 30–60 minutes of waiting.

At the Gate: Walk-up tickets are sold at the ticket office near the main entrance on Dolmabahçe Caddesi. Arrive early (before 10:00) to minimize wait times. The ticket office opens at 09:00.

Tour Operators: Many Istanbul tour operators sell packages that include Dolmabahçe Palace admission with a guided tour. These are often the most convenient option for visitors with limited time.

Skip-the-Line Tips

  1. Buy online — The single most effective way to skip queues
  2. Arrive at opening — The 09:00–10:00 window has the shortest lines
  3. Visit on a weekday — Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday see significantly fewer visitors than Friday–Sunday
  4. Avoid holidays — Turkish national holidays and school breaks (especially Bayram periods) bring massive crowds
  5. Winter visits — November through February sees the fewest visitors

  • No specific head-covering requirement
  • Sunglasses may need to be removed indoors

Photography Rules

  • Exterior photography: Allowed (including gardens, gate, facade)
  • Interior photography: Allowed in most areas (check signs)
  • Flash photography: Not permitted
  • Tripods and professional equipment: Not permitted without prior authorization
  • Selfie sticks: Not recommended (narrow corridors)

Accessibility

  • The main floor of the Selamlık is partially accessible for wheelchair users
  • The Harem section has stairs that may be challenging
  • There is no elevator between floors
  • Assistance can be requested at the entrance
  • See our accessibility guide for detailed information

With Children

  • Children under 6 enter free
  • Strollers should be left at the entrance (storage available)
  • The gardens are child-friendly and great for breaks between sections
  • The guided tour pace can be tiring for very young children
  • See our visiting with children guide for tips

Bag Storage and Rules

  • Large bags and backpacks must be left at the cloakroom (free)
  • Small handbags and camera bags are allowed
  • No food or drinks inside the palace
  • No touching of exhibits, furnishings, or walls
